Katherine Vargas, M.Ed, LGPC

Bilingual Therapist – Terapia bilingüe (English & Español)

I was born and raised in Colombia and moved to the United States at 18 to learn English and pursue my college education. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix and a Master's in Counseling and Development from George Mason University. Over the past 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with adolescents and young adults in various settings, including behavioral residential facilities, intensive in-home counseling, and school counseling. I am now embarking on the journey of private practice.

Throughout my career, I have been inspired by the resilience of the individuals I’ve worked with and have learned so much from their experiences. My passion for mental health drives me to continuously seek professional growth so I can offer the best support to my clients. With a strong focus on strengths-based approaches, I am dedicated to empowering those I work with to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

With over 10 years of experience, I specialize in supporting preteens, teens, and young adults. I offer therapy in Spanish when needed and am licensed in Maryland. I work with clients facing life transitions, grief, depression, anxiety, and challenges adjusting to new cultural environments. In our initial sessions, I’ll take the time to understand your unique experiences, and together we’ll develop a personalized plan to address your concerns and set meaningful goals.

My approach is strength-based and trauma-informed, integrating brief solution-focused techniques, mindfulness practices, and CBT. My goal is to help clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves while navigating the challenges and obstacles that impact their lives. I work alongside them to process difficult emotions and experiences, identify their strengths, and empower them to move forward with confidence.

With patience and compassion, I assist clients in managing significant transitions, such as the loss of a loved one, relocation to a new state or country, relationship struggles, and interpersonal difficulties. Ultimately, I strive to guide each individual in becoming the best version of themselves, helping them live a life that reflects their full potential.
